Ever thought about the chapter heading page?
You know that page that a new chapter starts on? Have you ever looked at its design? Whether it actually states the chapter's number, or is there a line that teases you to read on. Alberto had little illustrations which I absolutely loved.
Book 2 has a left and right theme so we've been looking at ways to use it in the design - but it's essential that it's subtle.
So, my editor and the designer and I have been fiddling round with different ways of working it. I find I have to print the design out and imagine I'm turning a page. Do I notice it? How does it make me feel - clever if I spot it?
Just another part of publishing that I have never, ever thought about, but a part of the process that I love.
